How does insurance replace your car when it’s stolen?




After working a long and hectic day, you reach the usual parking spot where you park your car every day. But your car is nowhere to be found! But what is the surety that your highly cherished expensive car insurance would come back to you safely or not?

First and foremost, a complaint must be filed at police station regarding the theft of your vehicle. Similarly, you must immediately contact either the agent through which you purchased your policy or the customer service center of your insurance carrier to inform of the stolen vehicle. In most cases the time period to recover stolen car is thirty days as it requires time to find a stolen car. Once you have contacted the insurance company it shall begin its detailed investigation. As per the standard operating procedure, you will have to give recorded statements in the presence of the claim adjuster. You must bear in mind that the whole lot of all sorts of questions that you will be asked are only going to help you find your car. Hence you must not feel offended or take any of the questions personally rather take it as professional duty of the company representative. The claim adjuster also has to ensure that the claim is an authentic one and not a fraudulent one. So he has to perform his duty. Other than that, usual questions shall be asked such as date and time when the incident took place, details of police report, place where the theft took place and the details of the stolen car such as its model, make, year and how much it was driven.

A total loss claim is when you and the claim adjuster mutually agree at a value of your vehicle which is based on the current value minus the deductible. An agreement would be formed between you and your company and respective payment shall be made for your stolen vehicle. However, if you want it back you can work out things with your insurance company.

If your vehicle is recovered but with damages, you will not have to worry for its repairs for they will be covered under comprehensive car insurance.
